Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program PDF Print E-mail

Program:

  • 12 weeks Training (Morning and Afternoon)

  • 10 Kodiak Crescent, Unit 100, Toronto ON M3J 3G5 Main Campus
  • 64 Saltsman Drive, Cambridge ON N3H 4R7 in the CLAC Training Facility

 

Refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics install, maintain, repair and overhaul residential central air conditioning systems, commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning systems and combined heating, ventilation and cooling systems. They are employed by refrigeration and air conditioning installation contractors, manufacturers and wholesalers in various industrial settings, food wholesalers, engineering firms and retail and servicing establishments. Transport refrigeration mechanics are included in this unit group.

 

Students who complete our structured Pre-Apprenticeship course will have receive theory instruction, together with the hands-on training methodology taught by highly trained instructors in the following areas:

 

HVAC Safety: Students learn about the electrical safety requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, safe work practices and procedures, environmental refrigerant laws (ODP), WHMIS, Fall Protection, Lock Out & Tag Safety, Confined Spaces Hazard Awareness, Aerial Platform, Traffic Control, and Scaffold Training.


HVAC Electrical: Students learn the fundamentals of electricity theory and practices. Topics include electrical theory; series, parallel and series/parallel circuits; meters; and basic electrical code practices.


HVAC Heating Systems: Students learn the fundamentals of residential and light commercial heating and cooling systems. Topics include forced air furnace system and hydronic boiler heating systems.


Piping Methods: Students learn how to thread and install complete gas piping systems in black steel pipe and in soft copper.


Venting Methods: Students learn how a building works as a system, including venting systems and sizing applications and by learning how to work and install sheet metal.


Gas 3 Training: Students will receive the TSSA approved curriculum.


ODP Training: Students will receive training and certification.


Employability Skills Include: Resume Writing, Interview, Customer Service, Communications and Timesheet Skills Training.

 

Training may qualify for up to 4 Credits towards completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

 

Successful candidates who complete the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanics Pre-Apprenticeship Program will have the skills to succeed in the following areas of the industry:
